The school hall upgrade will be welcomed by pupils and staff

NO MORE  uncomfortable assemblies for the pupils of Wainuiomata Primary School, as their hall is getting a makeover.

This year, the school hall, which has been in use for more than 20 years, has had funding approved for  an upgrade.

“We are bringing the hall up to the 21st century,” says headmaster Neil Worboys.

The hall is currently used for a variety of events and activities, including school assemblies and productions, and it is also used for physical education when the weather forces the children inside.

The refurbishment will  include replacing the old wooden floor with a modern softer alternative, which will make it a lot easier for children to sit down for long periods and make it safer for games and phys ed.

One former Wainuiomata Primary pupil recalls falling over on the hard floor during indoor sports and reckons the pupils at his old school will be pleased with their modernised hall.

Headmaster Worboys says: “We are also replacing the old wooden stage with a portable one, so we can move it around the hall when needed.”

This will enable the stage to be placed anywhere in the hall, creating the opportunity for more seating when productions are shown.

The kitchen and toilets are being moved from the back of the hall to around the side to make more room for sports and shows.

A computerised system is being bought in as well to replace the old projector system, which is near the end of its working life.

The work on the school hall is expected to be completed within the next term or so.
